One of our latest food finds in the city is Maha's - an Egyptian restaurant in Leslieville at the corner of Gerrard and Greenwood. Located in a small house, the street fare and brunch is served with so much pride and heart that it's hard to resist, even if the wait can be over an hour to get a seat at one of the dozen tables.
We haven't varied too much in the few times that we've gone. It's such a treat that we crave our "mind blowing chicken sandwich" that is so savory it's amazing, "ta'amia" (Egyptian falafel) and "foole" (fava bean stew) served with tahini in pitas, and "cumin homefries" with pickled red onions. Start with freshly made hummus and end with a date cookie, and the meal is perfect.
The service is just as good as the food and we eat like kings - all for under $35 with tax and tip. You'll want to hug the family at the end of the meal - it's that good.
They keep things simple, homemade and family run, so there's no fancy website and no reservations... Just come as you are!
